For so long, I have been looking for a sewing studio that has sewing classes for young children. To my surprise, there aren't any that has systematic lessons. At least not for as young as 6 years old. There aren't a lot of sewing projects that are written or designed specifically for young kids to understand and operate. Then I said to myself, why don't I start teaching kids since I have already started teaching my daughter? As I was planning my own lessons, I also found Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design Sewing Schools Curriculum, this wonderful sewing pattern kit series specifically designed and written for young kids!! I still remember the beaming look on my daughter's face when she completed her first place mat. She was so proud of herself and requested to take a picture with it to show everyone. It doesn't matter the line was crooked or the applique is not perfectly cut out. The process of making it and the ability of finishing it on her own is all that she cherished and recognized. The feeling of confidence will stay with her for the rest of her life. Not to mention the mother-daughter bonding time and fun. That is what I call "JOY" in this learning experience!
